Project Archaeology, a BLM supported archaeology education organization, announces an online teachers' professional development workshop to show educators how to engage kids in learning through the processes of archaeology, using the Project Archaeology-designed curriculum Investigating Shelter. Engaging hands-on activities fulfill many core requirements such as social studies, science, mathematics, language arts and art while promoting citizenship, building personal ethics and character, and achieving deeper cultural understanding.
The Eight-week Online Educator Workshop begins January 18, 2010. The course will incorporate 4 ½ hours per week of self-directed study and is geared towards upper elementary teachers, grades 3 - 6. The course costs $160.00 which includes the curriculum guide and 2 university credits. Interested teachers should contact Madlyn Runburg at 801-671-7713 or mrunburg@umnh.utah.edu by January 8, 2010.
